BOW (Becoming an Outdoors-Woman) explores the changing relationship women have with hunting culture. The series searches for meaning in tradition and challenges gender norms in small-town America

Stories make us human. I believe motion and photography are powerful tools that allow us to tell our stories in transformative ways. My goal is to tell your narrative or brand story in a way that fosters connections and builds community. Hi, I’m Lacey Criswell, a director and photographer. I’m also the founder of HUNT + CAPTURE, a collective of creatives that specializes in integrated campaigns. Meaning we are a full service motion and photography team. I value collaboration and inclusivity. My method is to create environments where my subjects, talent, and clients are supported, allowing me to capture compelling and personal narratives. My personal story informs my method. Growing up I attended eight schools by the time I was 13. As a frequent outsider looking in, I developed careful observation skills and a talent to forge social connections. As a director and photographer, I now consider these ‘new girl’ survival skills to be my greatest assets. In 2000 I left small town Minnesota for NYC. I was teaching myself photography and would spend days wandering the streets photographing people, places and everything in between. Quickly I realized the best part of photography is creating an image that has a compelling story. Craving a space to explore this I decided to attend Minneapolis College of Art and Design. At MCAD I had the pleasure of studying under Alec Soth. Now a photography star, who has been credited with making a "photographic career out of finding chemistry with strangers” and work is found in museums across the globe. Alec's influence was critical in my photographic journey. I was able to connect my personal curiosity to my photographic practice, creating my visual voice. I take a narrative approach towards every shoot. I want to find the roots of people and our connections to each other and the world we live in. With this approach my commercial and personal work gained national recognition and in 2014, propelled by nine years of professional experience, some bumps and some nice accolades, I took the leap and launched HUNT + CAPTURE. Now H+C has creative teams in Minneapolis, Seattle and Los Angeles. H+C generates advertising campaigns and tells clients’ stories all over the US and world.
