Harry Zimmerman USA 1st Place - Outstanding Achievement Nature Amateur "Moai Statues & Milky Way on Rapa Nui" This long exposure of Moai Statues against the Milky Way was the photographic culmination of my visit to Easter Island. My goal was to highlight the mysterious legacy of the statues that so many over the course of time have connected to some sort of relation to alien origin. Of course we now know that isn't the case, and through this image I tried to connect human-made objects with their eternal ties to their natural environment of Rapa Nui, and against the eternal night sky and the universe. It was a night I will never forget as a local Moai guide got me into the national park after hours, and we had a short window to capture some long exposure images before we "lost the light." |
