Osceola Refetoff

Multispectral exposures combine infrared and visual spectrum light in camera using filters in front to the lens to control the wavelengths recorded. Osceola Refetoff is a Canadian-American visual artist and photojournalist, known for his innovative use of infrared photography to document humanity’s ongoing relationship to the physical world. In parallel careers as an editorial and fine art photographer, his work is characterized by a hyper-realistic and nuanced vision, often yielding surreal, even dreamlike images. His process typically happens “in camera,†at the moment of capture, in a kind of alchemical reaction that transforms the external world into something both unchanged and extraordinary, realistic and magical. Refetoff's environmental photojournalism is regularly featured on PBS SoCal's multi-Emmy-winning "Artbound." He is the Los Angeles Press Club Photojournalist of the Year. |
