I was born in Pasadena, so the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains are where I learned to play and enjoy the outdoors. Skiing, hiking, camping, along with trips to the Pacific to sail and surf, and long drives up 395 were the norm and still are to this day. Mom was a portrait photographer, dad a lighting designer, so light and shadow were early comrades.
I’m a curious guy. That curiosity led me into the motion picture camera department, college, photojournalism, a couple of stints in Northern Ireland, and all manner of travel far and wide. My subject matter is varied though distinctly outdoors and many times close to the water. Marine work compels me, especially the form and function of boats. For me, there is nothing better than capturing sailors or crew at work in weather one of my colleagues likes to call “fresh to frighteningâ€. I’m fascinated by the work people do and capturing them as they do it. So that curiosity really comes down to people and capturing them doing what compels them, whether that's cooking brisket at a hill country BBQ in south Texas, a tuna boat crew offloading at 2am, or a surfboard shaper finding the perfect line. What some might see as drudgery, I find fascinating and an opportunity to capture lives well-lived. } ?>
