Viet Van Tran (b. 1971, Ha Noi, Vietnam) graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Studies from Ha Noi Cultural University in 1996. He began his career as a journalist and is currently a special reporter for Lao Dong newspaper, one of Vietnam’s leading national publications.
Tran has held ten solo exhibitions, including My Mum at the Photometria Festival (Greece), and has participated in more than eighty-five group shows across Asia, Europe, and the USA — notably The Fifth Exposure Annual Awards (digital showcase at the Louvre Museum, France).
He has received over 130 international photography awards, such as Px3 (France), IPA, Master Cup, Art of Photography Show (USA), MIFA (Russia), TIFA (Japan), ND Awards, Travel Photographer of the Year, Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year, and Pollux Awards (UK).
Tran has published nine books, including the notable Dharma and Life (EU-sponsored). His works have appeared in publications such as Photo (France), Silvershotz (Australia), Dodho (Spain), No Name Collective (UK), and International Portrait Photographer of the Year (Australia).
He has also served as a judge for Vietnam’s National Art Photography and National Press Photography contests, as well as the Vietnam Film Festival.
Recently, Tran made his directorial debut with My Mother, a short documentary that received multiple international awards, including Best Short Documentary and Best First-Time Director at the Cine Paris Film Festival (2025).
