"Ice 24, from the Series Glaciers"
Ice 24, from the Series Glaciers Patagonia, Chile 2008. The series Glaciers is based in a dialogue that questions public consciousness, the importance of time, of life and death, headed in the direction of natural disasters. A scary path to portray reality, the series Glaciers is a constant discovery process. Drawn and sculpted by the ocean and the wind, these dramatic natural shapes immortalized by photography will never be captured again. They are ephemeral witnesses of the immense environmental devastation that is occurring on our planet. Not knowing for how long, is the mystery of time; at the crossroad where life and death meet and from a different perspective, these glacier images invite us to see what will no longer exist and what has already melted. The intention of the series Glaciers is to revisit these environments as they melt into the past and project into the future questioning the public’s awareness of the importance of time, life and death. The sense of disappearing makes each photograph more intimate, therefore creating a more vital bond with the audience. The disappearing is what will stay in our memory and is what makes us see our world from a different perspective.

Cloud 9 is a series of photographic works; created with the thought in mind that everyday is a new day. As children, many of us looked towards the sky and found clouds bubbling into forms. As those forms moved and spun, we tried to name those loose shapes into something that we were already familiar with, such as “There’s a boat!” or “That looks like a tree”. Many adults wake to each day, and find themselves so familiar with life, that they forget how to look with the same wonder. Cloud 9 is a reminder to look up and into each day with the same wonder. As no two clouds are ever the same, every day truly is a new day.

After some time I came to the conclusion, the things around us, which we find in every day life can be as beautiful and exciting as foreign countries and unknown cultures. I try to consider the image separately and to find my own view. People are characterized by the landscape, they live in. Just as every landscape is modified by their inhabitants. In my work I'm looking for this mutual influence and change. The landscape, including the city landscape, continues to provide new astonishments. I like to observe and to be inspired by what I find in the simple beauty of daily things.

This photograph belongs to a series called SPECIES, which is a sociological study in which reality and fantasy get mixed. I decided to build a “catalog of SPECIES” (human one) of the natural park named Albufera. I managed to portrait what I consider to be every representative group of that land. Here we can see “the housewives”. They float on the water. They are really there, standing on plastic boxes . This set has a reason: . The landscape acts as magic background. They belong to it and it belongs to them. And the fact of making 15 groups on unknown people to pose, being themselves, standing on the water, makes the whole process a performance At the same time, these portraits become a document of the people from the rural Spain at the beginning of the XXI century. The style is marked between social document, fantasy dream and social experiment.

This serie was born through several encounters with members of various Rockabilly subculture groups in the city of Oslo, Norway. From speaking to these individuals, I became fascinated with their way of living, their looks and their way of being. A world where the clock stopped in 1950. A world from the past. So vintage; its clothes, its deco, its atmosphere and own social references derived from rock music and different subgenres. I continue to meet people from these groups, and I project myself into this world, parallel to ours. Like a desire to relive the past. I decided to follow them, to take photos of them, document them and tell their story. The only thing I required from them, was to turn up to the shoot exactly the way they wanted to. We are almost in a documentary. The people are real. The places exist as well. Nothing is artificial or constructed. I capture the reality as it is. Then I create my own atmosphere, my vision, by using my light and my frames. Somehow they become actors where the main role is their own lives.

Maslen & Mehra’s, ‘Museum Collection’ recontextualizes a series of museum objects; transforming them from static objects usually housed in permanent collections worldwide to an altogether temporary and ephemeral plane. The transience of culture and nature is vividly portrayed in a series of photographs. This series see the artists employing their distinctive technique of placing mirrored sculptures in different contexts and photographing them with a medium format film camera. Featured amongst the museum collection of shoes are British 18th century shoes, Kabkabs from 19th Century Turkey, Chopine from 17th century Italy, and contemporary examples by Vivienne Westwood and Christian Louboutin.

As a realist medium photography allows for the possibility to comfound our expectations of normalcy. It is the perfect medium for surrealist experimentation. NoCoatOn Fatal Attraction is the name of the Sphinx cat lent for this image as part of a series. No animals were thrown or forced to participate in any way. They are very energetic and agile and were leaping after a feather out of frame.

The photograph is a part of a series called About an End. This series is about any end and the moments right before it, in all its meanings. It is about those moments before something happens, when you suddenly SEE the end, it looks inevitable and the time is too short to change anything. But you still have those moments left, it still hasn't happened yet. It all is about hope and how you choose to look at things. Inspired by and dedicated to Mikhail Khodorkovsky and everyone in Russia who is burning, soaring and fighting for an idea - everyone against the system. Because that system is like an old floor on a dusty attic for an accidental paper plane - it is the ultimate end.

"Mirrors inside (1)"
Brief: ME. Inner monologue as an internal of personality. Something purely introverted. Personal. Dark. Everyone has something in them that they’re scared of. The dark side. The human subconscious and its intricacies. Nightmares that expel us from the warmth of our beds in the middle of silence – darkness – night. The scream that no one hears – only you (me). An absurd situation that frightens us with its senselessness and irony, in which you play the main role in the fatal situation in the middle of the wondrous theatre. We’re the very ones that we’re scared of, that we see everyday in the mirror. How much disguises do we conceal under our mask? We’re chameleons with a single face. We won’t even reveal our disguise to ourselves. By constantly searching for ourselves we disappoint ourselves and those around us… It’s so hard to answer life’s basic questions. Who am I? We’ll never answer correctly. Me. …

These works come from a project, U.S.80, that I have recently completed. U.S.80 was the first coast-to-coast highway in America, pre-dating even the fabled Route 66. It spans nearly 3,000 miles and runs between Savannah, Georgia and San Diego, California, covering an enormous diversity of the American landscape and culture. During three visits between 2008 and 2009, I travelled the road with a friend several times, building a collection of large format photographs that document its landscapes and people.
