Olivier Borson, a French photographer born in 1963, lives in Reunion Island, a French territory close to Madagascar. He studied medicine, but also found time for photography when he was not practicing medicine. Borson has been taking photographs since his adolescence, finding inspiration from his early passion for expedition stories, and later for traveling, medical assistance with mountain expeditions, outdoor racing, and overseas car rallies. Borson was also influenced by his National Geographic reading and was particularly impressed by Steve McCurry’s photographs.
Borson started his professional work 8 years ago doing landscape photography strongly influenced by Michael Kenna. This first work, marked by a big show of 30 images at the Reunion Island regional museum in 2011, was very successful. Encouraged, he expanded his portfolio with portraiture by studying with and joining Steve McCurry on several photographic expeditions in East Asia. When taking portraits Borson wants to capture images of the locals that reflect a truth and nobility. Recently, he has been assigned by Doctors of the World to photograph poverty and health accessibility in Mayotte Island and Madagascar. } ?>
